Solid cast in bronze, including the shade. We suspect they were intended in a dark environment where mood and atmosphere took precedence over practical lighting. They seem perfectly sized to flank both sides of a sofa or davenport, perhaps in a dark club's smoking room where after dinner cigars and brandy are enjoyed. These have their original fatboy sockets with a pullchain on\/off, refurbished when we rewired the lamps with a new cord and plug.
